Since club manufactures are making iron lofts stronger (lower lofts), ball flights are going a lot lower. If you use the high launch shafts with the modern strong lofts it can allow you to drastically increase your distance and hold the greens with more spin. These are Soft Stepped 6.0's.
The Project X LZ Steel shafts were tested and reviewed and so far we love what we see. The Project X LZ Steel shafts come in four different flexes and weights: 5.0 (R flex) at 110gr, 5.5 (R+ flex) at 115gr, 6.0 (S flex) at 120gr, and 6.5 (S+ flex) at 125gr. The Project X LZ steel takes a chapter out of the book from the original LZ graphite shaft.
The flex comes out between a 5.5 and 6.0.Soft stepping shafts makes them a slight bit more flexible. Several tour players soft step their irons to achieve the perfect flex. It is done by stepping the shafts up a club. Example: The 2 iron shaft will go into a 3 iron, the 3 iron shaft will go in the 4 iron, the 4 iron shaft will go in a 5 iron, The 5 iron shaft will go into a 6 iron, the 6 iron shaft will go in the7 iron, the 7 iron shaft will go in a 8 iron, the 8 iron shaft will go in the 9 iron, the 9 iron shaft will go in the Wedge, A simple way of explaining this is: soft stepped 6.0 3-PW shafts are actually 2-9 shafts but installed into 3-PW irons.
The actual flex they will play will be between a 5.75 (between a 5.5 and 6.0) Suggested Retail on Project X shafts are $33.50/Shaft $268 for 8 ShaftsProject X is A Proven winner on the PGA Tour with Wins at the Masters British and US Open. This is a more flexible higher launching version of what Jordan Spieth is using in his irons. Other Golf Links. Planning on purchasing a set of blades with either of these shafts and wanted to see what people thought's were on them. I play the Project X 6.0 shaft in my driver and 3 wood currently and I find them to be great. With the VR Pro blades I was having the problem of ballooning the ball with DG S300's shafts.
I tested both KBS and Project X and they flattened out well but I found that the KBS felt better. However, if I think the KBS shaft was slightler higher but I have no numbers to prove that.Has anybody played both shafts before? If so, what are your thoughts?. Everybody on here is wrong. First, you hit all three shafts on a launch monitor. Eliminate the shaft(s) you subjectively think go too high (because if you think it's going too high, you're never going to swing with confidence.) Shaft selection is so dependent on the individual.
What ever you do, do NOT select a shaft because someone tells you on the Internet it's a /better/ shaft. They don't know what's good for your swing, only you do (with a little help from someone who knows what they're doing and can interpret results on the launch monitor.). I am going to assume you have good swing mechanics, since you are buying blades. This means you have an inside to outside swing, is a righty, and generally hits a draw. That being said, I have hit all three. In the microcosm of the shafts you have indicated this is what's going on.Highest launch: KBSMid launch: DGLow launch: PXThe KBS does feel better than the offerings that True Temper has (PX, DG), but unless you are getting the C-Tapers from KBS, you aren't going to improve on the performance. Also, for PX to feel any bit good, you have to have a decent swing speed. In short, get the PX. Also, stay the hell away from Nippon.
Also, for PX to feel any bit good, you have to have a decent swing speed. This is false, PX makes a 5.0 which is for a 'senior' flex. Thats not even including their graphite line.Highest launch: KBSMid launch: DGLow launch: PXThis is also false, in my personal experience.I hit all three of these shafts on a launch monitor with the Mizuno MP58 6 iron.Project X had the highest launch angle, with the lowest spin rate.I agree with your final answer though. Get the project X. It's a better shaft.I would also recommend the trying the 'Flighted' version, it's supposed to make your lower ( P/9/8 )irons launch a bit lower and your higher ( 5/4/3 ) irons launch a bit higher.
